My grandmother went into the nursing home when she was 86 with Alzheimer’s. Assumed she would probably only make it a few more years after that she has proved everyone wrong and is 100 years old this month. I went to visit her last weekend.
Alzheimers is a terrible disease and I hope there is a cure by the time i reach old age. Being 100 and healthy besides the alzheimers is incredible. Spending 14 years of your life wondering who, where, and whats going on and having no idea what happened two minutes ago, why you are where you are, or how long you’ve been there, is probably the saddest thing I can imagine. I love her beyond words, and it breaks my heart.
When she went into the home I taught her a song she remembered for some reason every trip I went to visit her, except this one, because she couldn’t remember who I was. I love you to the stars and back, and I will always be “Thinking of you” Happy Birthday, Grandma Lynch.
